Lets find out some of the concerns of post-op
plastic surgery patients.
STAPLES!
Patient:
The staples behind my ears are driving me nuts – why? Is there a
trick to helping with that? Also, are there any type of exercises
or massaging I should be doing now or soon? I'm finding little
information on what to do.
Response:
In a face-lift and neck lift, the incisions around the ears, both
in front of, beneath and around the back, are traversing a very
delicate network of nerves. Quite often, after a facelift, people
experience any number of weird things happening around the ears
for many months, even up to a year or more.
I have heard people complain of tinnitus, (ringing), fluid
drainage, fluid blockage, a feeling of being "underwater," and
I've heard of people remaining numb in the area for years.
PROTRUDING EARS!
Patient:
Does anyone have any definitive answers as to what causes ear
problems after a facelift? Physicians have spoken of some of these
such as fluid retention, tinnitus, etc. in a previous question. I
have seen questions from others about 'uneven ears', I am aware of
'pixie ear', and myself have the problem of protruding ears, which
I never had prior to the facelift.
Response: When one has surgery, the body
must compensate and heal at its own pace, each person being
different. If any of the above symptoms persist in your case, and
you have checked it out with an ENT and gotten a clean bill of
health, I would suggest you not panic (that makes it worse), and
just take it week by week. Most likely when your body readjusts to
the major trauma it has experienced, and everything reattaches
itself and heals, these symptoms will go away.
SINUSES
Patient: I had a facelift January 23,
2003 and have had a lot of problems related to the ears and
sinuses. Its 5 months now and things don't seem to be getting any
better, a very uncomfortable feeling at the back of my head.
Interested to hear from anyone if this is typical or common and
how long it might go on for. My physician says,” I did not operate
on your ears".
Response: One of my former clients
complained consistently of feeling as if she had an ear infection.
She kept going on antibiotics, had her ears cleaned out by an ENT,
and the problem was persistent for 3 to 6 months. This problem did
not even begin until 8 months post-op.
HEARING PROBLEMS
Patient: I find this very interesting. After my facelift I
had, and still have problems, with my hearing. When I went back to
my surgeon, and told him I was having problems with my hearing he
looked down my ears and said that I had a lot of dried blood down
the ears (when I had the facelift I bled an awful lot - probably
because I was at the time taking vitamin E and Evening Primrose
Oil which both thin the blood). I put drops in the ears but this
still didn't make any difference, and I still have problems with
hearing 1 and a half years later. My Doctor tells me that my ears
are clear of wax etc and doesn't know what the problem is.

Response: If anything is really painful, radically
uncomfortable, or swollen and red, by all means get to an ear
doctor for a check up. If he gives you the o.k. you’re probably
experiencing the usual post-op trauma annoyances of having
surgery.
If you or someone you love is experiencing any
post-op trauma please don’t hesitate to express your story.

Is it
painful to use the Tua Viso?
If you turn the unit up too high it can be
painful, but used at the correct setting it feels like a massage.
If you do decide at any time to have a cosmetic procedure Tua Viso
can help in maintaining your results and lengthen the lifespan of
your procedure.
